Zebra Sharks
Zebra sharks are a common sight among divers in the south of Thailand, though many famously and mistakenly know them as Leopard Sharks. Zebra sharks are a type of carpet shark, partial to lazing in sandy patches along the reef. They can grow up to 2.5 meters (8-9 feet) but despite their ominous size they are harmless to humans. Their nocturnal nature makes them easy for divers to observe as they are rarely active during daylight hours and are generally... Read More
Far islands here we go
Today we decide to send all our boats to the far island. It is a bit of travelling but definitely worth it. Our guides have planned to visit Sail Rock for the first dive, have a break at the monkey beach hoping to encounter some of the native monkeys we have in the Park and have the second dive at Koh Sawang. Both of the dive sites are just incredible, covered with soft corals with different colours and as diverse as it gets in the whole Tarutao Marine... Read More
Visibility update
During half moon visibility is normally better and currents are less. Although we are still in the middle of winter, visibility has improved and it feels like we are in the summer already. This is a good sign as it seems like summer might come earlier this year. Yesterday we went out and we had 30 metres visibility, being one of the best dives during the high season. Schooling barracudas followedus during the whole dive, many sea horses, ornate ghost... Read More
The half moon bonanza continues
Conditions have improved considerably following the half moon, right now we are sitting on an average visibility of 15 metres. The absence of any wind allowed us to do one of are favourite diving routines, 1st dive in Ko Talu and 2nd one in Stonehenge. Ko Talu was a treat from the start, current was pushing mildly from north to south bringing to the reef a huge school of bigeye fusiliers, at 12 m depth we spotted a Tigertail sea horse feeding... Let’s all scuba dive
As a family activity, scuba diving will always bring parents and their kids together and couples too… Today we went out for a Open water course dive and the boyfriend, who is quite an experience diver, came along to enjoy and share the incredible underwater world of Koh Lipe, Thailand. While the student was performing the skills, he made sure to take a lot of pictures as its always a very memorable moment for someone to take their first breaths... Read More
Minke whales are back
Another usual day for us, lovely weather, nice visibility and all the marine life Koh Lipe has to offer such as sea horses, bamboo shark, juvenile oriental sweet lip just to name a few… Just after the first dive, there a little plus… Our captain, as sharp as his eyes are, spotted 2 Minke Whales from very far… Divers could not believe it…. After taking pictures and admiring the beauty of these animals they decide to go back to pick other divers….... Read More
The Open water Course experience by Rachel Szewczuk
I was so excited to start my Open Water Course with Castaway divers. At first I was slightly nervous, but when I got underwater and began to see the beauty and serenity of corals and marine life I felt in Love! I am completely addicted to diving now. What a touching experience being on the other side and seeing how different the underwater world is. Fish working together, corals protecting marine life, and others eating away at the coral, but... Feels just like flying
As we were just ready to go out for the dive, the sky turned dark and there came the rain. Our divers from Sweden, though as they can be when it comes to this kind of weather, agreed to go out anyway and that was a great choice. We were about to arrive at Pattaya corner just to realize that the visibility was amazing. Even though there was no sun, 30 metres visibility makes Pattaya corner a great spot as the massive rocks covered with soft corals,... Read More
Snorkelling with a Manta Ray!
Yesterday we were lucky enough to have one of those moments that will stay with us forever! Upon surfacing from a dive at stonehenge, Nu, our captain, told us he’d seen a Manta ray around the dive site while we were diving. Of course we were excited, but Nu thought it had left already. As we were removing our equipment we spotted something large just below the surface moving towards the boat. At first we couldn’t believe it but this soon... Read More
Baby Blacktip Reef Shark on Koh Adang
Usually we have lunch on a beach somewhere in the marine park, and recently we’ve had some interesting company! One of our favourite spots, a quiet and usually empty beach on Koh Adang now also appears to be home to a young black tip reef shark. We’ve seen the shark, the last 4 times we’ve been there for lunch. Measuring less than 50cm for nose to tail, the baby shark has been swimming around in the sandy shallows allowing us watch...
